Artist's Statement

My interest in art began with my study of art history and an obsession in wanting to understand how artists achieve a particular effect. I was as interested in what was underneath the finished piece as I was in the finished product itself.  I began to work in layers of color, building up textures and cavities, creating scarred surfaces and playing colors against each other.  My goal is to take complicated works and diffuse them into the simple and create my own language by doing so.

Through the use of mixed media and my own techniques I have found that my work now stands as a visual diary of a day. The simplicity of the image understates the history leading to that time.
