Artist's Statement

In Gamaliel Rodriguez’s  latest project, he uses  Felt tip pen (Sharpie) or Ballpoint pen on paper to produce a series of aerial views of unreal  industrial ,military or civilian areas mainly in Puerto Rico and US territories those visual memories serves as inspiration for his drawing, a jumping-off point to another fictional place; the photorealist scenes initiate a unique social experiment, interacting with viewers’ personal memories and sense of place.” He obtained his Master Degree in Visual Arts at the Kent Institute of Art and Design in Kent 2005 and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2011.

His works have been acquired by important Institution such as The MFA Museum of Fine Art Boston, The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico MAPR and The MUSAC Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Castilla y Leon in Leon. Spain.

His upcoming shows may include the “Muestra Nacional de Arte, San Juan Puerto Rico”, the XVIII Bienal de Cerveira, Portugal, “The Bronx Calling”, The Bronx Biennial 2015,  “Saludo a la Trienal, Trienal Poligrafica de San Juan”, Puerto Rico, “La vida es una mierda” Narrativas de desesperanza, incomunicacion y fracaso en el capitalismo de hoy- Fondos MUSAC” in the Domus Atrium DA2 in Salamanca, Spain coming up in October among others.
