Painting and Unique Journals

Artist's Statement

My paintings attempt to decipher the correspondences I discover, the patterns of nature – the energies, rhythms, equations of the macro to the micro. I see my work as a journey of exploration that must resist labels.

My recent paintings combine geometric and lyrical abstraction. I have always followed a jazz like rhythm of improvisations within an order, contra punctual. Underlying this process is drawing, both calligraphic and geometric, hot and cold.

Throughout my 35 year practice, my works have emerged from an amalgam of references: texts, calligraphy, geometry, phenomenology, alchemy, architecture and art history, but most of the work has related to landscape. “ I carry my landscapes around with me” quoting Joan Mitchell.
