Artist’s Statement
The roots to my work are to be found in concert halls and nightlife, playing in a band, performing in small crowded venues and bar tending, I often go back to these urban nocturnal environments to investigate the structures and tools that support them as emotionally charged spaces. Zooming in on the objects and materials which have a distinct functional purpose within these bigger encompassing experiences, I remove them from their original environments, restructuring their serviceable presence, inserting them into a new order, materials such as the gaffers tape (used to stabilize cords on stage) andrubber floor mats (used as flooring in bars and kitchens) are formed into experiential and conceptual charged installations, exploring questions of power, sexuality, gender and memory through sensual experience.
