Artist’s Statement

Artist  Pepa Prieto, discloses all her  fantasy in a world full of freshness . An oneiric  world marked  by a naïve, folky  touch which shows clearly  in her use of the colour palette and the characters represented. This oneiric  world  she reproduces  full of landscapes and imaginary persons are references of her own experiences. 

The result is a composition of scenes which form a world of allegories  and secret messages.

Her work recalls  those adolescent drawings with a simple line  but a complicated composition where extravagant inhabitants share the setting with geometric shapes, mountains, urban country sides and figures.

The cohabitation between the animal world  and the human one reminds that of children tales. 

Her very detailed work, with  flat images in a range of colour and textures, has a naÔf  touch but also it has a complex, humorous and ironic  vision  about the deepest human behaviour. 

In her work  she explores the most profound behaviour of human beings and their interaction  with others .

Pepa Prieto is an artist  who not only experiments in  an unique field of action, she as well utilizes  other formats such as installations , illustration,  painting , photography.
