Fountainhead presents Bert Rodriguez in conversation with Kathryn Mikesell discussing working outside of traditional galleries and institutions.
ARTIST to ARTIST, a new series featuring artists presenting their unique paths to success. For the last 25 years, Bert has performed and made art for museums, galleries, corporations and in public all over the world. In 1995, he married a total stranger off the street for a year as a project for his college painting class. In 2008, he performed therapy for the Whitney Museum and was planted like a tree for a day at the entrance to the Bass. He did a bunch of really amazing shows, projects, exhibitions along the way and then quit. In 2015, he opened up his own home to the public as a museum in LA which hosted regular hours and #NightsAtTheMuseum, a program through Airbnb. It had a gift shop, a cafe and collaborated with Ebay to auction items from the museum’s collection. Then Bert died.
Norberto shares his thoughts on the nature and function of art, the evolution of his conceptual practice since 1993 and how in the future, everyone will be an aritst and everything will be art. Norberto has produced projects for institutions, corporations + brands all over the world including the Whitney Museum of American art, the Walker Art Center, + the Bass Museum along with Google, Ebay and Airbnb.
