Artist’s Statement

As a visual artist, I have been ideologically influenced primarily by the Dada movement from which I have gained a subtle surrealistic vision. This is particularly apparent in my still life panel paintings, where insects, animals and body parts are depicted in a bizarre and eclectic way, and later in a painting entitled “Spinning Granny”. These works seek to explore themes of nature and metamorphosis while utilizing repetition and movement to create an unreal or sometimes humorous effect.

In terms of technique, I have been most influenced by the Fauvist/Purist movement and later, by artists such as Soto and Cruz Diez. I prefer a more organic and minimalist composition and the use of vibrant, contrasting colors. My brushwork tends to be very clean, marked by meticulous attention to detail.

My recent work has evolved into exploring a more abstract and organic approach, while retaining the use of a strong, vibrant palette and clean brushwork. An example of this work is found in” Ivan”, which is a one of a series of paintings depicting the infrared images of highly destructive hurricanes.

Currently, I am working on the hurricane series, a series of abstract paintings depicting the four seasons, and in a multimedia project related to the Seven Deadly Sins.
