Artist Statement
My drawings and prints produced either on cardboard boxes collected from different grocery stores or with the use of produce-box graphics are based on my personal experience with the agricultural industry. Working in the fields for many years has made me realize that there is a big difference between the lifestyles of the struggling workers and that of the wealthy agribusiness owners. Through the juxtaposition of produce labels from reclaimed produce boxes and images of agricultural workers on those boxes, I attempt to create compositions that allow me to reflect on the disparities of social lifestyles and the questionable economic systems that contribute to it. I see my work as a common ground for conversation between the well-off and the less fortunate.
