ARTIST STATEMENT
While exploring scientific quirk through the lens of queer theory, I make art about the relationship between humans and the natural world. I create conceptually layered sculpture and mixed media installations which both often feature theatrical light and sound elements. The chaotic and Boschian compositions are psychologically engulfing; their highly detailed and ornate surfaces draw the viewer in hypnotically. Driven by intuition, my process of making is gestural and meditative. Using a combination of man-made and natural materials, craft sensibilities and knowledge of familiar visual symbols, I engage with themes of abstraction, whimsy, loss, and desire; generating a twisted interpretation of camp. Simultaneously urgent yet pensively reflective, my works are both memento mori and societal critique.
