ARTIST STATEMENT
“Moving to the U.S. at a young age, the transition demanded my intensive observation and awareness, in order to comprehend the new foreign habitat. Consequently, my practice focused on our relationships to the minutia around us, in connection to the much larger environment, while searching for our place within that spectrum. With this desire for attentiveness, my practice dissects the surrounding location, accumulates found artificial/natural materials that are discarded and often overlooked, then applies observational processes to form site-responsive installations. This practice grows into a ‘nesting’ process, which embodies an obsessive impulse to investigate the construct of 'home' and pursue an understanding of our symbiotic relationships with the local ecology.
My practice borrows scientific approaches and natural history presentations to examine and pose questions about the connections between the foreign sites and our interventions. At the forefront of my research is often the contradictory, yet harmonious relationship between growth and decay. My work investigates the notions of observing decay, processes of preservation, memory documentations and archives; in turn, to learn and prepare in dealing with death, preserving lives/memories, and invigorate a new cycle of growth. This explorative nature hopes to connect us to the history of our place, time, and matters, while re-examining our philosophical ways of being with one another. “
